Darlington County Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the humane care and treatment of dogs and cats throughout Darlington County.

The organization provides humane and compassionate care for abandoned and neglected dogs and cats brought to the Darlington County Animal Shelter, ensuring their safety, health, and well-being.

Darlington County Humane Society works to place shelter pets into safe, permanent homes through reclaim, adoption, and rescue services. This includes carefully screening potential adopters through an adoption application process, as well as placing animals with reputable rescue organizations through strategic networking, coordinated placement, and the provision of transportation.

To support lifesaving outcomes and increase capacity, the organization operates the Bridge Transitional Facility, which provides temporary care for dogs and cats with confirmed rescue or adoption placement, as well as animals needing additional time to heal. This program allows space to remain available at the shelter for additional animal intake.

The organization is committed to reducing the rate of euthanasia and advancing its goal of becoming a no-kill shelter. This goal is supported through proactive efforts to reduce pet overpopulation in Darlington County by providing education, spay/neuter outreach, and community awareness programs.

Darlington County Humane Society also provides coordination, training, and oversight of volunteers who support all aspects of the organization’s operations and lifesaving mission.
