How to Adopt
Find Your New Best Friend at the Darlington County Humane Society
Every animal in our care deserves a loving home. Our adoption process is simple and designed to make sure each match is a happy, lasting one, for you and your new four-legged family member!
Step 1: Complete an Adoption Application
Start your adoption journey by filling out our DCHS Adoption Application. If you already have a specific pet in mind, list their name and species on the form. Once submitted, our Adoption Coordinator will contact you to schedule a time to visit.
Step 2: Visit & Meet Our Pets
Come meet our wonderful dogs and cats in person! You’ll have a chance to spend time with them, get to know their personalities, and ask our staff any questions. We’ll help you find the best fit for your home and lifestyle.
Step 3: Finalize Your Adoption
Once you’ve found your match, we’ll guide you through the adoption paperwork and review your pet’s medical records. Then it’s time for the best part, taking your new friend home!
Please remember:
All dogs must leave on a leash and collar
All cats must leave in a secure carrier
Refundable spay/neuter deposits apply for unaltered pets (see below)
Adoption Fees
Adoption fees vary by animal type. Dog adoptions are $135, while cat adoptions are $80. For pets that have not yet been spayed or neutered, a refundable deposit is required. The refundable deposit is $50 for unaltered dogs and $25 for unaltered cats. This deposit is returned once proof of sterilization is provided.
